Where the hell do we start? We are only two and a half months in to 2015 and rap music has been quite the roller coaster so far. Rae Sremmurd started off the new year by releasing their debut album, SremmLife, which featured “No Flex Zone” and “No Type”. Not to mention they released their underrated banger- “Unlock The Swag”. Then on January 20th Lupe Fiasco dropped off Tetsuo & Youth and Joey Bada$$ FINALLY unleashed his debut album, B4DA$$. I’ve actually yet to give both of those albums a quality listen but I know Lupe SNAPPED on “Mural”.

Drake and Big Sean took over February of 2015. Out of nowhere Drizzy let loose his new “album” titled If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, which features some of his most aggressive tracks yet. For me, the standouts from that project were “Energy”, “6 God”, “6 Man”, “Legend”, “5 PM In New York”, and of course the fan favorite, “Know Yourself”. On February 24th, Fashawn, Big Sean, and Ghostface Killah all dropped new projects. After that, Kanye premiered his new single during the 2015 Brit Awards, which is set to appear on his new album So Help Me God. It’s good to see that Ye is back to rapping! It may not be his most deep track ever, but I love the energy on it. Oh, and lets not forget that Kendrick blessed us with “The Blacker The Berry” on February 9th and showed why he’s one of the best MCs in the game.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, we’re seventeen days into March and it might be the most jam-packed hip-hop month so far. After a Jay Electronica song leaked, Jay Electronica ACTUALLY RELEASED A SONG VIA TWITTER and blessed us with the CDQ of “Road To Perdition”. That is one of my top three favorite songs of the year and one of Jay E’s best from a lyrical standpoint which is really saying something. Freddie Gibbs gave the fans a gift on March 9th with the release of his new three-track EP. In the beginning of March, Kendrick announced that he’s dropping a new album on March 23rd and gave a us a two week notice. For those of you who are living under a rock, Kendrick Lamar releaesd the follow-up to GKMC one week ahead of it’s scheduled release date. You can purchase his new album, To Pimp A Butterfly, via iTunes! On March 23rd, Action Bronson and now Earl Sweatshirt, are both releasing projects. I’ve really enjoyed Bronson’s singles leading up to the album so I’m excited to hear the full body of work.

With all of this hip-hop music releasing, it’s hard to stay up to date and actually digest the music that these artists are blessing us with. Besides the artists above, there have been PLENTY of great underground releases. Denzel Curry, Azizi Gibson, Chris Cartier, Meyhem Lauren, Kembe X, Snubnose Frankenstein and many more have been releasing HEAT. You can check out some of those artists on our SoundCloud here. One main trend that many of us have been noticing is that artists aren’t really giving us release dates anymore, they’re dropping projects out of the blue- at least the more well known rappers.

2015 has been insane so far in terms of hip-hop releases and I’m thankful that all of this music has been released. I wish the releases would stop for a few weeks so I can actually digest the music and appreciate it more. However, if the start of 2015 is any indication of how the year is going to go, then we’re in for a whirlwind.
